The Gainesville trades community rallied in force for the Delgado family.
In the weeks following the death of ironworker Roberto Delgado on a Gainesville job site, the local trades community has come together in a way that few outside the industry would expect. As of this week, over $50,000 has been raised for his wife and three children.
How the Community Responded
The fundraising effort was organized by Ironworkers Local 118, but quickly spread across all five building trades unions in Alachua County. A benefit dinner last Saturday drew over 400 people and raised $28,000 in a single evening.
"Roberto was one of us. When one of us falls, we all feel it. And we take care of our own."
— Tony Ruiz, Business Agent, Ironworkers Local 118
Donations are still being accepted at the union hall on NW 13th Street. All proceeds go directly to the Delgado family.
